lexington heights
Incorporated as a township in 1858, the history of Mendota Heights actually begins in 1699 when French explorer Le Sueur explored its river bluffs in search of copper. Shortly afterward, the area became a hotbed for the fur trade at the union of the Mississippi and Minnesota rivers, and in 1819 the area saw the construction of Historic Fort Snelling.
